History of "Voices Behind the Walls"

Voices Behind the Walls was started as a reaction to the increasing violence in the inner city neighborhoods.

Ex-Gang Leaders Terry Goudeau, John “Apollo” Payne, and activist Chris Miller felt it necessary to start a website that exposed the realities of gang violence. With letters from inmates throughout the State of California, Voices gave a place where inmates within the prison system could share their voice of change. The inmates whose letters make it on the website, have had a change in their soul and hope to share the realities of their lives within the prison system. Voices Behind the Walls has now evolved into a movement.

Voices Behind the Walls supports many groups that are trying to make a positive change in their neighborhoods. Supporting groups like S.U.I.T.S. (Stepping Up Into Society), and various after school programs, Voices Behind the Walls hopes to bring together groups that work for a positive change and create a family of positive voices.
